Peacemakers
Where are they now,
the peacemakers,
whom Jesus called “the blest”?
Who risk their all,
make walls to fall,
and are of love possessed.
Where are they now,
when hate reigns down,
when rockets pierce the night,
when children cry,
and hell seems nigh,
and truth has fled from sight?
Where are you now?
Blest peacemakers,
our world has need of you.
To speak with strength,
and deep intent,
spark hope and life anew.
Where are you now?
Away, or here?
Peacemakers we can be!
If we, Christ’s way,
live day to day,
In blessed harmony.
Peacemakers work,
and hope and pray
that conflicts, wars, will cease.
Let all embrace
our human race,
bring to God’s world: true peace.

Celebrating Matariki
Hear the word, it’s Matariki,
rising cluster in our sky.
Nine the stars that make this cluster,
speaking now to you and I.
Learn the word, it’s Matariki,
God’s sign in the early dawn,
tribute to those dearly loved ones,
whanau, that today we mourn.
See those stars, it’s Matariki,
cosmic lights that mystify,
We are of that cosmic matter,
born from earth, and sea and sky.
Speak the word, it’s Matariki,
time to dream, and hope and pray,
shaping life to face the future,
planning for a better day.
Sing the word, it’s Matariki,
celebrate with family, friends,
share some kai, some joyful moments,
pledge a love that never ends.
Let this sign called Matariki,
clustered, gathered, in the sky,
point us to a grace filled future,
God’s great hope for you and I.

Pakeha Pilgrims
Pilgrims, parents, saints, and sinners
travelled here on many a ship,
leaving homes and friends behind them,
on a long demanding trip.
We, like them, must also venture,
if from Christ’s cup we would sip.
To an unknown land they travelled,
as did Maori long ago.
Making this their future homeland,
here to plant, and tend, and grow.
We, like them, must risk adventure
if true faith our lives would show.
Here they worked and built their homesteads,
brought up fam’lies, tilled the ground.
Telling stories of the Gospel,
sharing words of faith profound.
We, like them, must share faith’s stories
live the good news we expound.
Now, today in this shared homeland,
where both pine and kauri grow,
many races seek to prosper,
hoping love and peace to know.
We today, who share this homeland
would Christ’s love and hope bestow.
